Frequently Asked Questions

With a range of energy efficiency measures available, you could be forgiven for being unsure which is right for you. Not every home is suitable for some of the home improvement options our partner installers provide.

A heat pump system may not be suitable for every property or you might need to improve your property’s insulation to enable you to get the most out of your upgrade. Similarly, your home may not be suitable for solar panels, perhaps because your roof space is too small or will not get sufficient sunlight, but you won’t necessarily know that. Our partner installers can make an assessment, either remotely or on site, and then make recommendations for you.

With the information you provide to us, our partner installers can assess your home and its suitability for the home improvement you are considering and make recommendations that will bring you the best long-term savings.

It pays to shop around, and with any sort of big home improvement investment like solar PV systems, heat pumps, insulation or boilers, you want to be certain you are getting the best deal. We take all the hard work out of you finding quotes by arranging for a select few local installers to contact you (you decide how many quotes you want to receive).

The quotes you receive are no-obligation, so you are free to choose which quote you go ahead with or opt for none at all, if you consider the quotes are not right for you at this moment in time. All the installers we recommend to you are trusted installers with a proven track record of energy efficient home improvements.

With energy bills having rocketed in recent years, there’s never been a better time to switch up how you power and heat your home and retain that heat.

Through the addition of one or multiple energy efficient measures such as solar panels, eco-friendly boilers, heat pumps, plus a range of home insulation options, your savings could easily add up. Your savings will depend on a number of different factors, including the size of your home and household, your energy use throughout the day, plus also the type of eco measure you have installed.

Additionally, if you were to combine a solar battery with a solar set-up, your savings could be even greater as you’ll not only be able to store any excess energy produced but also send it to the grid in return for payments under the Smart Export Guarantee.

Potential savings according to the Energy Saving Trust estimates

Measure

Estimated Savings

Solar

£520 – £630 (with Smart Export Guarantee)

Heat Pump

£260 (when replacing an old G-rated gas boiler)

Loft Insulation

£200-£370 (when insulating a previously uninsulated loft)

New boiler

£120-£475 (when replacing an old G-rated boiler)

Savings are for illustrative purposes and are not guaranteed. Savings will vary according to multiple different factors including type of property and previous heating system or insulation.

We appreciate the cost of installing modern energy efficient measures can sometimes put them out of the financial reach of many, but the good news is that there are free funding grants available to eligible households. We can help you get access to these grants — including Boiler Upgrade Scheme, ECO4, Great British Insulation Scheme — so that a large percentage of your installation costs may actually be covered.

We’ve helped thousands of people, not only improve the energy efficiency of their homes, but also secure the free funding that has made the switch to energy efficient measures much more affordable, and sometimes completely free. There are also finance options available for your home improvements and pay for them in instalments.

Installing energy efficiency improvements is now actually more affordable because the installation of energy-saving materials and heating equipment is now zero-rated. This 0% rate applies to a range of measures including solar panels, air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, water source heat pumps, solar storage batteries, and insulation among others. The 0% VAt is applicable until 31 March 2027, at which point it will revert to a still reduced rate of VAT of 5%.
